The study of government is important because it
directs people's attention to development of non-state institutions
enables citizens to understand the processes for managing state affairs
encourages individuals to take decisions that satisfy their aspirations
encourages the elite to remain in power

The purpose of studying government as found in the Preamble of the Constitution, is to "establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity." this will enable citizens to understand their rights and avoid abuse of those rights by people whom they had choose to represent them.
