In the 1930s, the National Youth Movement (NYM) was the political movement that challenged the NNDP (Nigerian National Democratic Party) domination of Lagos politics. The NNDP, led by Herbert Macaulay, was the dominant political force in Lagos at the time, but the NYM, led by Nnamdi Azikiwe, aimed to promote more nationalist and progressive political ideals. The NYM advocated for greater self-government for Nigerians and was a precursor to the formation of more significant political parties like the NCNC.
