An object is acted upon by a system of parallel forces causing the object to be in static equilibrium. Which of the following statements is not correct?
The resultant of the parallel force is zero
the algebraic sum of the moment of the forces is zero
all the parallel forces must be equal in magnitude and in direction
the sum of the forces in one direction must be equal to the sum of forces in the opposite direction
Explanation
The conditions of a body in equilibrium by action of parallel forces are ;
i) total upward forces are equal to total downward forces, ii) The algebraic sum of the moment of all forces about any point should be zero, and iii) The total resultant force must be zero. So OPTION C is not correct about parallel forces causing an object to be in static equilibrium.
