While the African Union (AU) works to promote peace and security, social development and equal distribution of wealth in its member states, governance and democracy are more about the political systems within individual countries, and the AU’s focus is often on addressing broader issues like conflict, poverty and economic development. The AU does advocate for democratic principles, but its direct aim is not always to enforce or ensure democracy in each member state.
