A unitary state is a system of government where all powers are concentrated in a central authority, with little or no autonomy given to regional governments. Countries with homogeneous societies (where people share the same culture, language, religion and ethnicity) and small populations are suitable for unitary systems because there is less need for decentralization or power-sharing among diverse groups.
