At the Jos Congress of February 1962, Ladoke Akintola was dismissed from the Action Group (AG). This led to a split within the Action Group. Akintola, who was the deputy premier of Western Nigeria at the time, had differences with the party leader, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and this is what led to his expulsion from the party.
