During the reign of King Ahab, a time marked by widespread idolatry and persecution of true prophets due to the influence of Queen Jezebel, Obadiah—who was in charge of the king's household—remained faithful to God.

According to 1 Kings 18:3–4 (RSV):

"Now Obadiah feared the Lord greatly; and when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the Lord, Obadiah took a hundred prophets and hid them by fifties in a cave, and fed them with bread and water."

This action was a courageous demonstration of loyalty to God, as it risked his life and position in Ahab’s court.
