David's respect and humility for the Lord's anointed (Saul) is evident in his refusal to harm Saul despite having multiple opportunities to do so. This is shown in two notable incidents:

1. In the cave at En Gedi (1 Samuel 24:6): David cut off a corner of Saul's robe but refrained from killing him, saying, "The Lord forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, or lay my hand on him; for he is the anointed of the Lord."

2. At the camp in the Desert of Ziph (1 Samuel 26): David took Saul's spear and water jar but again refused to kill him, showing his respect for Saul as God's anointed king.
