The first council at Jerusalem (Acts 15) focused on resolving issues about which parts of the Mosaic Law were binding on Gentile converts to Christianity. The council concluded that Gentile Christians were not required to follow the full Mosaic Law, such as circumcision, but they were to abstain from:

• Eating food sacrificed to idols
• Consuming blood or the meat of animals that were strangled
• Sexual immorality

Praying five times daily in the temple was never part of the Mosaic Law or the council's decrees and so was not binding on Christians.
