When David learnt the child born to him by Bathsheba had died, he
fasted and prayed for the dead
tore his robe and dismissed the court
anointed himself and worshipped the lord
sought Nathan's counsel on what to do next
Explanation
In 2 Samuel 12:20 (RSV), after David learned that the child had died, the Bible states:
"Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and he went into the house of the Lord, and worshipped; he then went to his own house; and when he asked, they set food before him, and he ate."
Before the child's death, David had fasted and prayed, hoping that God would spare the child. However, once the child died, he accepted God's will, anointed himself, worshipped the Lord, and resumed normal activities.
