WAEC - Chemistry (2004 - No. 18)
Two solutions containing Pb2+ and AI3+ respectively can be distinguished using
NaOH(aq)
NH3(aq)
conc. HCI3
conc. HCI
Explanation
HCl (hydrochloric acid) can be used to distinguish between Pb\(^{2+}\) and Al\(^{3+}\) because lead ions (Pb\(^{2+}\)) form a white precipitate (PbCl\(_2\)) when reacted with HCl, while aluminum ions (Al\(^{3+}\)) do not.
