Mathematics for IGCSE & O level - Similarity (Section 3 - No. 12)
The heights of two similar glasses are in the ratio 1:1.2. How do you calculate the capacity of the larger glass?
Multiply the capacity of the smaller glass by 1.2
Multiply the capacity of the smaller glass by 1.44
Multiply the capacity of the smaller glass by 1.728
Divide the capacity of the smaller glass by 1.2
Explanation
Capacity (volume) scales with the cube of the linear dimension. So 1.2^3 = 1.728
