Mathematics for IGCSE & O level - Limits Of Accuracy (Section 2 - No. 27)

Calculate, to 3 significant figures, the minimum width of a rectangle with these dimensions: Area = 21.0 cm² to 3 significant figures, Length = 17.8 cm to the nearest millimetre.
1.17 cm
1.172 cm
1.18 cm
1.182 cm

Explanation

Lower bound width = (Lower bound Area) / (Upper bound length). Therefore, the lower bound of area is 20.95, and the upper bound for length is 17.85. Then 20.95/17.85= 1.1736 = 1.17 cm (3.s.f)
