JEE Advance - Chemistry (2010 - Paper 1 Offline - No. 15)
The correct statement about the following disaccharide is :
Ring (a) is pyranonse with $$\alpha$$-glycosidic link.
Ring (a) is furanonse with $$\alpha$$-glycosidic link.
Ring (b) is furanonse with $$\alpha$$-glycosidic link.
Ring (b) is pyranonse with $$\alpha$$-glycosidic link.
Explanation
Pyranonse structure is a six-membered heterocyclic ring containing five carbon atoms and one oxygen atom. A glycosidic bond is formed between the hemiacetal group of a saccharide and the hydroxyl group of some organic compound such as an alcohol. C-1 of ring (a) has an $$\alpha $$-glycosidic linkage.
Ring (b) has 5-members and hence is a furanose.
