JEE MAIN - Physics (2023 - 13th April Morning Shift - No. 15)
Different combination of 3 resistors of equal resistance $$\mathrm{R}$$ are shown in the figures. The increasing order for power dissipation is:
$$\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{B}}<\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{C}}<\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{D}}<\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{A}}$$
$$\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{C}}<\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{B}}<\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{A}}<\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{D}}$$
$$\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{C}}<\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{D}}<\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{A}}<\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{B}}$$
$$\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{A}}<\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{B}}<\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{C}}<\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{D}}$$
Explanation
$\mathrm{P}=\mathrm{I}^2 \mathrm{R}$
$$ \mathrm{R}_1=\frac{3 \mathrm{R}}{2}, \mathrm{R}_2=\frac{2 \mathrm{R}}{3}, \mathrm{R}_3=\frac{\mathrm{R}}{3}, \mathrm{R}_4=3 \mathrm{R} $$
Since $\mathrm{i}$ is same, hence $\mathrm{P} \propto \mathrm{R}$ so options (B) is correct
$$ \mathrm{R}_1=\frac{3 \mathrm{R}}{2}, \mathrm{R}_2=\frac{2 \mathrm{R}}{3}, \mathrm{R}_3=\frac{\mathrm{R}}{3}, \mathrm{R}_4=3 \mathrm{R} $$
Since $\mathrm{i}$ is same, hence $\mathrm{P} \propto \mathrm{R}$ so options (B) is correct
