JEE MAIN - Mathematics (2002 - No. 30)

If $$\left| {\overrightarrow a } \right| = 5,\left| {\overrightarrow b } \right| = 4,\left| {\overrightarrow c } \right| = 3$$ thus what will be the value of $$\left| {\overrightarrow a .\overrightarrow b + \overrightarrow b .\overrightarrow c + \overrightarrow c .\overrightarrow a } \right|,$$ given that $$\overrightarrow a + \overrightarrow b + \overrightarrow c = 0$$ :
$$25$$
$$50$$
$$-25$$
$$-50$$

Explanation

We have, $$\overrightarrow a + \overrightarrow b + \overrightarrow c = \overrightarrow 0 $$

$$ \Rightarrow {\left( {\overrightarrow a + \overrightarrow b + \overrightarrow c } \right)^2} = 0$$

$$ \Rightarrow {\left| {\overrightarrow a } \right|^2} + {\left| {\overrightarrow b } \right|^2} + {\left| {\overrightarrow c } \right|^2}$$

$$\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\, + 2\left( {\overrightarrow a \,.\,\overrightarrow b + \overrightarrow b \,.\,\overrightarrow c + \overrightarrow c \,.\,\overrightarrow a } \right) = 0$$

$$ \Rightarrow 25 + 16 + 9 + 2\left( {\overrightarrow a \,.\,\overrightarrow b + \overrightarrow b \,.\,\overrightarrow c + \overrightarrow c \,.\,\overrightarrow a } \right) = 0$$

$$ \Rightarrow \left( {\overrightarrow a \,.\,\overrightarrow b + \overrightarrow b \,.\,\overrightarrow c + \overrightarrow c \,.\,\overrightarrow a } \right) = - 25.$$

$$\therefore$$ $$\left| {\overrightarrow a \,.\,\overrightarrow b + \overrightarrow b \,.\,\overrightarrow c + \overrightarrow c \,.\,\overrightarrow a } \right| = 25.$$
