Explanation
(1)
Here oxygen(O) has lone so it will attach on H+ of HI and H+ will attach with O atom to form oxonium ion.
(2)
As O is more electronegative atom, so it don't want to hold the positive charge so it will break bond to create 2o cation which is stable.
Now with this cation I$$-$$ ion is added.
