JEE MAIN - Chemistry (2012 - No. 5)
The equilibrium constant (KC) for the reaction N2(g) + O2(g) $$\to$$ 2NO(g) at temperature T is 4 $$\times$$ 10–4. The value of KC for the reaction, NO(g) $$\to$$ 1/2N2(g) + 1/2O2(g) at the same temperature is :
0.02
2.5 $$\times$$ 102
4 $$\times$$ 10-4
50.0
Explanation
For the reaction
$${N_2} + {O_2} \to 2NO$$
$$\,K = 4 \times {10^{ - 4}}$$
Hence for the reaction
$$NO \to {1 \over 2}{N_2} + {1 \over 2}{O_2}$$
$$K' = {1 \over {\sqrt K }}$$
$$ = {1 \over {\sqrt {4 \times {{10}^{ - 4}}} }}$$
$$ = 50$$
$${N_2} + {O_2} \to 2NO$$
$$\,K = 4 \times {10^{ - 4}}$$
Hence for the reaction
$$NO \to {1 \over 2}{N_2} + {1 \over 2}{O_2}$$
$$K' = {1 \over {\sqrt K }}$$
$$ = {1 \over {\sqrt {4 \times {{10}^{ - 4}}} }}$$
$$ = 50$$
