Explanation

In The Old Man and the Sea, Santiago catches a giant marlin, but during his struggle to bring it in, the fish is wounded. The blood from the marlin attracts sharks, which eventually attack the fish. Despite Santiago’s efforts to fend off the sharks, they devour the marlin, leaving Santiago with little to show for his efforts.
