Tukulor empire, Tukulor also spelled Tukolor, or Toucouleur, Muslim theocracy that flourished in the 19th century in western Africa from Senegal eastward to Timbuktu (Tombouctou). The founder of the empire is Al-Ḥajj ʿUmar.
