JAMB - Government (2025 - No. 44)
The elective principle was first introduced under
Lyttleton constitution
Richard constitution
Macpherson constitution
Clifford constitution
Explanation
The Clifford Constitution of 1922 was the first to introduce the elective principle in Nigeria. This led to the first-ever elections into the Legislative Council, with three seats for Lagos and one seat for Calabar. The introduction of this principle awakened political consciousness, encouraged the formation of the first political parties (such as the NNDP), and increased the tempo of nationalism.
