An independent judiciary is one which is free from the interference of the other two arms of government, the executive and legislative. A condition for judicial independence is the appointment of judges by the Judicial Service Commission. The Judicial Service Commission is responsible for the appointment, promotion and discipline of judges. This system helps ensure that the judiciary remains independent from the executive and legislative branches.
