The Organisation of African Unity (OAU) was formed on May 25, 1963, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It was established to promote unity and cooperation among African countries and to support the decolonization of African nations. It was later replaced by the African Union (AU) in 2001 to address more modern political and economic challenges.
