The Ajaokuta Steel Project in Nigeria was closely associated with Russia (then the Soviet Union). The Soviet Union provided technical and financial support for the project, which began in the 1970s under Nigeria’s industrialization efforts. The Russian firm TPE (Tyazhpromexport) was heavily involved in its design and construction.
