JAMB - Government (1992 - No. 13)

Electoral colleges have been criticized because they
are very expensive
create more seats in the legislature
make the legislature too responsive
sometimes negate the wishes of the electorate

Explanation

An electoral college is a set of electors who are selected to elect a candidate to a particular office.

One of the major criticism against the electoral college is that, It is “undemocratic;” It permits the election of a candidate who does not win the most votes; and. Its winner-takes-all approach cancels the votes of the losing candidates in each state. This can sometimes be in opposition to the will of the electorates.
