Explanation
Indirect election was first introduced in Nigeria by the Clifford Constitution of 1922. This constitution replaced the previous system of governance by allowing the election of some Nigerian representatives to the Legislative Council through an indirect electoral system. However, voting rights were restricted to male adults who met certain income and property qualifications, and the system was limited to Lagos and Calabar.
