Fundamental human rights of citizens in Nigeria are explicitly provided for in the 1979 Constitution, under Chapter IV, which outlines rights such as:

• Right to life
• Right to dignity of the human person
• Right to personal liberty
• Right to fair hearing
• Right to freedom of expression, etc.

While the UN Charter promotes human rights, the more specific document is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR, 1948) rather than the Charter itself.
