The National Congress of British West Africa (NCBWA) was founded in 1920 by educated elites from British West African colonies (Nigeria, Gold Coast (Ghana), Sierra Leone and Gambia). The congress aimed to advocate for greater political representation and self-governance for Africans.

One of the key figures in its founding was Dr. Akiwande Savage, a Nigerian nationalist and medical doctor, along with Casely Hayford from the Gold Coast, who played a major role in leading the movement.
