Abraham was referred to as a friend of God because he
fasted consistently
prayed regularly
was blessed by God
never argued with God
Explanation
When God commanded Abraham to leave his home or later to sacrifice his son, Isaac, Abraham did not argue or look for excuses. He trusted God completely and obeyed "on that very day".
The Scripture (James 2:23) notes that "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and because of this deep relationship of trust and obedience, he was called the Friend of God.
