The event that caused the dispersion of Christians and led to the spread of the Gospel among Gentiles was the stoning of Stephen. This event is recorded in Acts 7:54-60 and Acts 8:1. After Stephen's death, a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.
