In order for the people of Israel to be ready to meet the LORD by the day at Mount Sinai, they were
not to drink alcohol
to wear white garments
to wash their garments everyday
not to go near a woman
Explanation
When the Israelites were to meet the LORD at Mount Sinai, God gave Moses instructions to consecrate the people and make them ready for the third day. One of the commands included abstaining from sexual relations. This is found in:
Exodus 19:10, 14–15 (RSV):
"And the Lord said to Moses, 'Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments...'”
"And he said to the people, ‘Be ready by the third day; do not go near a woman.’”
