In 1 Thessalonians 5:6, Paul advises the Thessalonians to stay awake and be sober as they prepare for Christ’s Second Coming:

"So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober."(1 Thessalonians 5:6, RSV)

Being sober in this context means being self-controlled, alert, and spiritually vigilant rather than indulging in reckless or sinful behaviour.
