After this statement, the first thing God did was to
make a rib into a woman and bring her to the man
take one of the man's ribs and close up its place with flesh
cause a deep sleep to fall upon the man
from beasts and birds and bring them to the man
Explanation
The statement "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him" is found in Genesis 2:18 (RSV). However, before creating the woman, God first formed the animals and brought them to Adam to see what he would name them.
Genesis 2:19 (RSV) states:
"So out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name."
Only after Adam had named the animals and found no suitable helper did God put him into a deep sleep and create Eve from his rib.
