Which of the following reactions is an oxidation process?
2H\(^+\) + 2e\(^-\) \(\to\) H\(_2\)
2O\(^{2-}\) + 4e\(^-\) \(\to\) O\(_2\)
OCl\(^-\) + H\(_2\)O + 2e\(^-\) \(\to\) 2OH\(^-\) + Cl\(^-\)
Cl + e\(^-\) \(\to\) Cl\(^-\)
Explanation
Option B is the only oxidation process because there was an increase in oxidation state of Oxygen from - 2 to 0.Also, there was loss of electrons. The other options are reduction reactions as they involve gain of electrons as well as decrease in oxidation number.
