The human vertebral column, also known as the spinal column or backbone, has 33 vertebrae:

• Cervical: 7 vertebrae (neck region)
• Thoracic: 12 vertebrae (Chest cavity)
• Lumbar: 5 vertebrae (in the lower back, between the thoracic vertebrae and the pelvis)
• Sacral: 5 vertebrae that fuse together to form the sacrum (at the base of the spine)
• Caudal: 4 vertebrae that fuse together to form the coccyx (in the tail region, posterior to the anus)
