The major motivation for British colonization of Nigeria was to satisfy British economic interest. They wanted a market for their raw and finished products. British did not allow her colonies to trade directly with other countries. Before Nigeria's independence, Britain spelt out the conditions of trade. For instance she determined the prices of Nigerian import and export commodities.
