Loranthus is considered a hemiparasite, meaning it's both parasitic and autotrophic, as it can photosynthesize but also relies on its host tree for water and minerals. 

Loranthus plants grow on the branches of woody trees and have specialized structures called haustoria that penetrate the host's bark to absorb water and minerals. Despite its parasitic nature, Loranthus retains the ability to perform photosynthesis, meaning it can produce its own food using sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water.
