The Benin kingdom is stratified into three age grades which are
Irogbae, Edion, Igbhele

In Benin kingdom, land is owned by the villages and each village is divided into three grades which are Irogbae ( between age 0-16), Igbele ( unmarried people that form part of warriors) Edion ( old people who has achieved status in the society).
