JAMB - Chemistry (2024 - No. 80)

A typical chemical reaction will be spontaneous if
enthalpy change is negative
free energy change is greater than one
entropy change is zero
enthalpy and free energy change are equal

Explication

A reaction which is exothermic (ΔH negative) and results in an increase in the entropy of the system (ΔS positive) will always be spontaneous. Also, if ΔG is negative, the reaction will be spontaneous because the reaction can take place on it's own without any external source.
