The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in Nigeria plays a role in judicial appointments. However, when it comes to federal judicial appointments, especially for high-level positions like the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), the National Judicial Council (NJC) is primarily responsible for recommending suitable candidates to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, upon the recommendations of the Judicial Service Commission. The Judicial Service Commission is vested with the power to recommend suitable persons for appointment as the Chief Justice of Nigeria to the National Judicial Council (NJC), who then offers such recommendations to the President.
