Swarming is a coordinated collective motion that can be seen in both animate and inanimate systems. For example, when ants get crowded, they coordinate waves of activity every 20 minutes. Social insects like ants and honey bees, as well as non-social insects like flies, moths, cockroaches, and locusts. Termites swarm after their original colony has reached a certain capacity level and is ready to expand.
