Mendel's second law of inheritance, also known as the law of independent assortment, states that genes for different traits are inherited independently. This means that the outcome of one gene is not affected by the outcome of another gene. 

Mendel's second law of inheritance, also known as the law of independent assortment, deals with the independent segregation of different traits (genes).
