When an a.c. voltage is applied to a capacitor, no power is consumed because the current

leads the voltage by 90°

lags behind the voltage by 90°

and voltage are in phase

and voltage are 180° out of phase

In a capacitive circuit, current leads voltage by 90°, or voltage lags current by 90°
