The dissolution of parliament leads to a general election. In many parliamentary systems, when the parliament is dissolved, it marks the end of its current term and the beginning of the process of electing a new parliament. This is done to elect new members to the legislative body, and sometimes, the ruling party may call for elections to form a new government.
