 Within the United Nations, voting power is exercised in the Security Council. The Security Council is responsible for maintaining international peace and security, and its decisions require the affirmative votes of at least nine of its fifteen members, including the concurring votes of all five permanent members (the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, and China) to pass certain resolutions.
