Forklaring

At the time of Nigeria's independence in 1960, the Defence Pact with Britain was viewed by many Nigerians as an affront to the country's sovereignty. The agreement allowed Britain to have a military presence in Nigeria and intervene in its affairs if necessary. For many Nigerians, this was seen as a symbol of continued colonial influence. The pact was perceived as undermining Nigeria's pride as a newly independent nation.
