JAMB - Chemistry (2007 - No. 3)

When calcium oxide is heated with carbon, the oxide will
be converted to carbide
be converted to the trioxocarbonate (IV) salt
decompose to the metal
melt, producing carbon (IV) oxide

Vysvětlení

When calcium oxide (CaO) reacts with carbon (C), it produces calcium carbide (CaC\(_2\))and carbon monoxide (CO). This reaction occurs at very high temperatures, around 700°C.

  CaO +  3C  →  CaC\(_2\)  + CO
