Sulphur dioxide SO\(_2\) can cause many environmental problems, including acid rain, smog, and damage to plants. When SO\(_2\) combines with water and air, it forms sulfuric acid, which is the main component of acid rain. Acid rain damages plants and trees, and can kill fish and other aquatic specie.
