A seedling grown in the dark will eventually die because it won't have enough energy or food to grow. Seedlings grown in the dark grow taller than seedlings grown in the light, but without much leaf development. This is because they use stored chemical energy in their cells to grow. They become etiolated(pale and drawn out due to a lack of light).
